Wecome to the site of the UVA Quizbowl team! Whether you’re a returning player eager to get started or a newcomer looking for competition and companionship, we’d love to see you at our first meeting on Tuesday, Auguest 29th in New Cabell room 485! If you want to check out the rest of the site, here is our general information on transitioning to college quizbowl, here is a short glossary on terms that might make the previous link a little easier to understand, and here is something that might just make you laugh.
Congratulations to all the members of UVA Quizbowl for another season successfully completed! By the numbers:
45,000+ points scored

Accolades to our A team composed of Vasa Clarke, Jack Mehr, Lawrence Simon, and Eric Xu, who wrapped the season in 2nd undergrad at ICT and 5nd undergrad at ACF Nationals. A special goodbye to our lady of the buzzers Ria Witteman, and a slightly less special salutation to Dustin Wessells, as he’s just moving over to further studies in the UVA medical school. Finally, to all members, whosoever you may be, thanks for playing, staffing, and making this team wonderful, and we’ll see you all in the fall!
Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.
A student organization is ineligible for CIO status when the organization restricts its membership, programs, or activities on the basis of age, color, disability, gender identity, marital status, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, veteran status, and family and genetic information. Notwithstanding these requirements, a CIO may petition to restrict its membership based on gender (e.g. all-male or all-female a cappella groups) or an ability to perform the activities related to the organization’s purpose by filing a written request with the Office of the Dean of Students. In evaluating any such requests, the University will look not merely to the constitution of an organization but to its actual practices and operations.
On April 1st, the UVA Academic Competition will be hosting the Virginia NAQT State Championship, open to all Virginia middle and high schools, both public and private. Register now, by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org with:
- Number of teams your school plans to bring
- Number of buzzer sets your school plans to bring
- Number of moderators/scorekeepers your school can provide
The team cap is 40 teams, so register as soon as possible! The top 15% of the field will automatically qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament, and as we have received a Platinum Certification from PACE, the top 25% of teams will qualify to attend the National Scholastic Championship in Chicago. For further details, please review this forum post, or contact email@example.com with other questions. Hope to see you there!
The first episode of the Future of High School Quizbowl Round Table (FHSQ) is currently uploaded! This episode, featuring David Reinstein (President of PACE) and Jeff Hoppes (VP for Communication for NAQT) discussing their different organizations and their respective ideas for the present and future of Quizbowl. Very interesting!
The website has just been updated to include a compendium of general guides for improving at Quizbowl, as well as a new guide on how to transition from high school to college-level questions, which will hopefully be useful to new players and veteran players alike! Those can be found under the Resources tab on the main menu.
On behalf of exec, happy studying!
